Gathering of the Guilds: Head to the Oregon Convention Center for artwork, demos, and more from the Oregon Potters Association, Creative Metal Arts Guild, Guild of Oregon Woodworkers, Northwest Fine Woodworkers, Oregon Glass Guild, Portland Bead Society, and Portland Handweavers Guild. Friday and Saturday, 10:00 am to 9:00 pm. Sunday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Henry Winkler (The Fonz on “Happy Days”) will talk about his YA book “A Brand-New Me” at Powell’s Books at Cedar Hills Crossing, 7:00 pm.
Mike Reiss, “The Simpsons” writer/producer and children’s book author, will speak to aspiring authors and fans at the Lucky Lab. Doors open at 6:30 pm, and the event will begin at 7:00 pm.
Saturday, May 1
May Day celebration: Live music, dancing, kids’ entertainment, and more. Kennedy School, 3:00 pm ’til late.
Free Comic Book Day: Pick up free comic books at participating stores.
Family clothing swap: At 2:00 pm, swap kids clothes (ages 0 to 13 years). At 3:15 pm, swap teen and adult clothes. Midland Library.
“The Sacred Harp” all-day shape note singing event: Join Portland Sacred Harp at Lincoln Street Church from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm to sing all day. Bring a dish to share.
A Look Back at Native Americans in the Northern Willamette Valley: Learn about the Calapuya and Chinook Indians who lived here before European settlement. Hillsdale Library, 3:00 pm.
