“Felt Spaces” Felt work by Annin Barrett and Tash Wesp
Felt work by Annin Barrett and Tash Wesp shows at the Gallery at The Art Institute of Portland in this exhibit about the world’s oldest fabric. Incredibly adaptable, wool felt can become anything from art to clothing to houses. Felt Spaces explores the varied possibilities of felt design.
Inspired by a summer sabbatical trip to Kyrgystan to research felt, Annin Barrett presents her felted wool landscapes as well as shyrdak rugs collected from Kochkor and Bishkek. She will be teaching a felt design course at The Art Institute of Portland in Spring 2011.
Tash Wesp creates one-of-a-kind felt clothing, hats, toys, and a wild and woolly felt installation for the gallery. With a background in the circus, she brings a love of creative mayhem to her studio work. Specializing in nuno felt designs, she teaches workshops and lives in Newport.
